Launch

I sit upon this mountain top
Staring into this great vacuum
That I used to live in
Suffocating, joyless, numbess
There is nothing there but broken dreams
And starless nights
I shift my gaze
And stare into the heavens
Glowing moon and brilliant stars
Are there to great me once more
Leaving behind the dark night of my soul
I launch once more into the unknown
And dare to dream great dreams once more

Frozen Moment
Frozen Moment
by: R.A. Slater

Magic
Pure Magic
Filled this moment
Caught in between
The sun rising
And night fading
A few bright stars
Still hung in the sky
While morning painted
Her glory across the horizon
Soft hues of pink and lavender
Highlighting the low lying fog
Wisping across the countryside
Patches here and there
As a new day was birthed
And a myriad possibilities
Awaited discovery
In this frozen moment
Before reality comes crashing in
And the sun scorches
Our dreams away

Blazing Glance
Blazing Glance
by: R.A. Slater
11/25/11
God just glanced at me
Burning blazing fire
Racing across my bones
Searing my flesh
Hair standing on end
Just a look, just a touch
And all that I am
Known to Him
No hidden flaw
Secrets revealed
Yet there is no shame
Liquid gold coursing my veins
As He speaks my name
So similiar to my lover
The thrill, the warmth, the love
Passion and comfort

Torrent
Torrent
by: R.A. Slater
11-06-10
The tap was dry
Crusted over with rust
Where once life flowed freely
I tried many times
To turn the flow back on
Not the barest hint of a drop
Could be seen
Even on a rainy day
I sat patiently
I paced back and forth
Then finally lay down to die
The You spoke through the rain
And the tap began to drip
I sat up and paid attention
As one drip led to another
Then there was a steady stream to drink from
Slowly saturating all that could be seen
Long had I been awaiting this day
You promised me more
Not a whisper, a thundering
Soon there would be a torrent
A rush from heaven that no bucket could hold
I could not contain
But not a drop would not be lost
What wonders I anticipate!

He Knows My Name
Written almost a year ago: 6-24-05He Knows My Name
By: R.A. Slater
Yahweh, Jesus
Emmanuel, Jehovah
Christ, Messiah
Lord, Savior….
And yet He is friend
This Being of immense power and authority
He stretches forth His hand
To span our unending universe from pinkie finger to thumb
He strung the stars as a necklace
And hung the sun and moon in their place
With care He placed the planets in their orbits
These heavens declare His great Majesty
There for all to see
His glory is indescribable
And words cannot contain its weight
What am I that God would be mindful of me?
I am but a speck of dust compared to a mountain,
Yet He knows my name
One out of uncountable humanity
My life is to Him the blink of an eye
But His thoughts toward me are without measure
Amidst all creation He sees me
And His love for me is as immeasurable as His glory
